About Us

Over four generations, situated in the heart of the Cheshire countryside

Baled is situated in the heart of the Cheshire countryside at Red Hall farm, home to James, Louise, and Kristian Charlesworth. Not forgetting, Boo and Nelson, the Pugs that rule the roost!

As a family, we have farmed at Red Hall farm for over four generations. Grandad Marshall Charlesworth, a keen showjumper in his day, maintained Red Hall Farm as a dairy farming enterprise. However, in 1997 the chance arose to dive into the world of poultry as a dual-farming occupation.

We’ve always had a keen interest in the arable and poultry sectors in particular and saw a real opportunity to utilise our 600 acres of land to grow the feed for the poultry side of the business – reducing feed costs long-term and improving feed traceability too. With that, we made the decision not to pursue dairy anymore. Cattle were sold, and we ploughed the farm in preparation to grow arable crops such as wheat straw, oats, oil seed rape and beans!

Regulations within the poultry sector are stringent, with the welfare of the animal at the highest priority of every farmer. That’s why today, we use our KME processing system to create small and easily moveable bales which are perfect for perching and pecking and comply with Red Tractor regulations.

We want to help other farmers comply with the same regulations, whilst helping increase the welfare of their birds. Our bales not only reduce plastic waste, but they keep the birds happy and engaged all day long.

From farmers that care

We understand the importance of high-quality forage and bedding for all animals, and that’s why we believe in the three D’s:

  1. Dedust
  2. Destone
  3. Disinfect

Our state-of-the-art processing system allows us to do just that.

We know exactly where our products have grown and always have animal health and wellbeing at the forefront of our minds – because, let’s be honest, a healthy animal is generally a happy one too!
